If your network is failing right now, the useful question is not which tool we own — it is how quickly someone finds the cause. NETK5 has fixed wireless problems in China since 2002, onsite and remotely, with our own engineers rather than a call centre. We diagnose WiFi problems of every kind — from one dead zone to a site-wide failure.

Most faults that get called “the WiFi” are one of four things: too few access points for the load, an access point that has failed or been disconnected, interference from something that changed nearby, or a configuration that was never right in the first place. All four look identical to the user.

What we check first

  • Is it the WiFi or the internet? We separate the local network from the circuit, so the fix happens in the right place.
  • Where exactly does it fail? One room, one floor, one corner, everywhere at one time of day.
  • When did it start? A date and time narrows the cause faster than any tool.
  • What changed? New racks, new machinery, a fit-out, a new neighbour in the building.
  • What is on the air? Channel overlap and interference from surrounding networks and devices.
  • What do the logs say? Roaming events, disconnects and retries tell us what the user experiences.

Symptoms we are called about in Hong Kong

  • Dropouts in one area while the rest of the site is fine
  • Slow speeds at busy times, particularly morning arrival or shift change
  • Video calls and voice breaking up, or handheld scanners losing sessions
  • Guests, students or staff repeatedly reconnecting, or failing to connect at all
  • Coverage that stopped working after a fit-out, a new partition or new equipment
  • Devices that work on one access point and refuse to roam to the next

How we find the cause

  1. Remote triage. Controller and access point logs, configuration and client behaviour reviewed before anyone travels.
  2. Onsite measurement. Where the problem is physical — interference, absorption, a dead zone — we measure with Ekahau rather than guess.
  3. Fix. Configuration correction, channel and power changes, access point repositioning, cabling repair, or a documented case for additional hardware.
  4. Verify. We re-measure the area that failed and show you it works, rather than declaring it fixed from a laptop.

Where we work

We are not a single-city provider. NETK5 dispatches engineers across mainland China: our own team is based in Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou and Hong Kong, and we staff projects elsewhere in the country as clients need them — Xi’an, Chengdu, Suzhou, Taixing and beyond. Outside China we have delivered rack-and-stack work and WiFi surveys in Japan, Korea, Singapore and Taiwan, usually for international companies coordinating several sites from a head office that has never been on site.

Our experience

Since 2002 we have supported clients including McKinsey, Pfizer, Siemens, Nestlé, Microsoft and JLL across China, from single-office fixes to multi-site wireless programmes. Most of what we are called to is configuration rather than failed hardware — channel planning, roaming settings, or a fit-out that was never re-measured. Most faults trace to the physical layer. Recent examples include phased wireless surveys at a pharmaceutical manufacturer’s site in Dalian, and APoS (access point on a stick) surveys for an industrial client in Nanjing and Shanghai.

Questions we get asked

How quickly can someone attend? For the cities we cover it is normally the same or the next working day; we will confirm when we see the fault. We test real applications, not just signal strength.

Can you diagnose remotely before sending an engineer? Usually, yes — and it often narrows it to one visit rather than two. Repeated complaints are reproduced before anything is changed.

We think it is the internet, not the WiFi. We check that first, in both directions. If the fault is the circuit, we will say so and not sell you a survey.

Do we need a full survey to fix one problem area? No. A full survey is for planning. A problem area needs measurement of that area.

Will you tell us if we don’t need to buy anything? Yes. Plenty of faults are configuration, not hardware.
