The previous IT engineer didn&#8217;t stay much longer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The factory, a vast chemical processing plant in the north of Shanghai, was expanding rapidly. IT was part of the core components of that growth, supporting production, logistics, sales, all parts of the firm&#8217;s activity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As an international company, all IT was to follow strict standards and integrate with the global systems. <strong>Re-training a new person every 6 months had a heavy impact on development.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because of this, a suitable candidate would have to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Be proficient<\/strong> with a wide range of technologies, from <em>User Support<\/em> to servers, networks and security.<\/li><li>Be able to <strong>communicate<\/strong> efficiently with foreign teams in English.<\/li><li>Be able to <strong>explain<\/strong> and work with the local constraints of China, which HQ doesn&#8217;t always understand.<\/li><li>Be <strong>willing to stay in a tiny city<\/strong> (for China), surrounded by chemical factories.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/netk5.com.cn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/stencil-dajq97-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Chemical factory\" class=\"wp-image-1057\" width=\"560\" srcset=\"https:\/\/netk5.com.cn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/stencil-dajq97-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/netk5.com.cn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/stencil-dajq97-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/netk5.com.cn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/stencil-dajq97-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/netk5.com.cn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/stencil-dajq97-20x13.jpg 20w, https:\/\/netk5.com.cn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/stencil-dajq97.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>That was, and still is, akin to<strong> find the proverbial needle in a haystack. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And that came on top of Eric&#8217;s already busy responsibilities as a CFO.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A chance meeting.<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p>At that time, Lulu G. was our budding Key Account Manager, with an additional interest in HR issues. We still closely work together on IT matters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Jacky<\/strong> was&nbsp;the&nbsp;first full-time engineer there. He was very highly appreciated by both users and the HQ IT team.&nbsp;He is now back to Shanghai where he is&nbsp;our <strong>Lead Network Specialist<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Zed<\/strong>, our next dedicated engineer, is now on his third year at the plant.&nbsp;He also <strong>receives excellent reviews<\/strong> from users and HQ IT team.
